HRU has teamed up with Comau to find a Certified Welding Inspector for it's Novi, MI location. This is a long-term contract that has the capacity to go direct for the right candidate. If you have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business, at least five years of product or process experience and have a current CWI certification, this position could be for you!

Summary

The CWI candidate will be reporting to the Quality Manager and/or Supervisor while working with supplier quality team, the welding inspector will be responsible for implementing and maintaining quality programs and welding inspection duties by adhering to standard quality operational policies, procedures and standards.

Manage all aspects of Manufacturing Quality Program to meet, quality targets consistent with customer needs, timing, and the long-term success of the organization.  Support one or more project teams consisting of cross-functional team members in the development & implementation of Quality Control in the Manufacturing Plants.  Define and communicate clear Quality Control deliverables and performance targets so quality KPIs for manufacturing and superior customer satisfaction are evident and supported by data. Practice and emphasize ‘Zero Defect’ mindset in all aspects of Process & Product Quality development to ensure all activities involving supplier, manufacturing plants customer relationships have clarity and focus about the highest expectations of quality product.

Duties and Responsibilities

Main areas of responsibilities are:

  • Reporting to Plant QC Supervisor
  • Quality interface of Manufacturing Leader / Production Supervisor
  • Coordination of QC activities for a project and/or a production line
  • Management of Quality Documentation of the project / production line
  • Management of Non-Conformances (NC) of the project / production line until implementation of containment action (curative level)
  • Management of improvement actions of the project / production line
  • Surveillance and control of Metrology activities performed in the Plant and on Customer Site
  • Oversee data collection, data analysis and development & display of critical QC parameters in key manufacturing operations impacting Quality.
  • Responsible for controlling Incoming Supplier Quality, quality of parts manufactured at the site and ensuring customer ‘buy-offs’ proceed flawlessly.
  • Ensuring that the welding procedures specification are available and deployed in production during all fabrication;
  • Assist engineering on weld symbols and drawings;
  • Verification that dimensions, fit-up and weld preparations are in accordance with specification;
  • Monitoring and inspect all work performed by tack welders and/or welding operators;
  • Inspect and evaluate welds according to specified inspection procedures, standards, codes, and drawings;
  • Record welding inspection results that were witnessed and prepare associated report;
  • Assists the Quality Manager / Team with the implementation, interpretation, and maintaining company quality assurance standards;
  • Provides Quality Manager with status reports for internal control on quality issues concerning fabrication processes and procedures;
  • Perform weld quality audits;
  • Analysis and compilation of QC KPI of the Sites on time for weekly report out;

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of organization from shop-floor to management staff.
  • Experience and understanding in APQP and knowledgeable of designing quality during product development cycle.
  • Experienced in interacting with cross-functional team members to achieve alignment and commitment to keep quality as the most important program deliverable.
  • Knowledge of Non-conforming Material Reporting (NCR) process.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of the customer’s processes and organization structure.
  • Working knowledge of the customer product
  • Certified Welder Inspector – AWS D1.1 (preferred) or equivalent
  • Minimum five years knowledge of fabrication within the steel industry, of experience in a manufacturing, repair, or operating facility that involves welding;
  • Ability to read blue prints, tape measures, calipers, and micrometers

Qualifications

  • Education :
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Business degreed required and extensive organization and industry experience. Experience in WCM methodology - QC Pillar - and PMP/Quality Certification preferred.
  • Previous experiences
  • A minimum of 5 years Product or Process Quality Management experience in the automotive
