Chemical Lab Technician (Research Specialist) - (Contract)

We here at HRU Technical Resources have partnered with an industry leader in the chemical manufacturing industry to find a Chemical Lab Technician working on research for automotive catalyst technology..

In the role of a Chemical Lab Technician you will support Environmental Catalyst research and development by preparing catalysts using variety of techniques, including ion-exchange, impregnation, slurry/washcoat and other common techniques.  Characterization data on finished catalysts will also be generated and provided to the researchers for evaluation and interpretation.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe working environment by embracing Zero Incident Mindset and 5S concept; Identify hazards and work safely following EHS (Environmental Health and Safety) guidelines.
  • Work as part of the team to complete complex tasks in a timely fashion, be a team player
  • Prepare experimental catalysts using established procedures including impregnation, ion exchange, calcination in both lab and pilot plant scale
  • Implement experiments, generate reliable data, and interpret results for automotive (diesel and gasoline) catalyst research
  • Responsible for performing the entire range of automotive catalyst preparation
  • Make observations during the experiments and report/discuss these observations with the researchers
  • Document in detail all Laboratory experiments and activities in the Electronic Lab Notebook, ensuring that the notebook is kept up to date
  • Document and organize collection of samples for possible testing and evaluation in the future
  • Follow all prescribed sample labeling requirements and follow the prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Use of an online analytical software system to submit samples for chemical or physical analysis; Compile returned analytical data, summarize results, and report to supervisor.
  • Recognize when results are not meeting expectations and work to resolve minor problems through troubleshooting techniques; seek advice from supervisor or researchers for more complicated issues
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to catalogue and / or plot results and maintain Excel Summary files for individual projects.
  • Assist senior staff members on specified projects
  • May need to learn to operate some pilot scale equipment.

  • Prior experience with chemical processes, batch reactors, or analytical test equipment.
  • Bachelors in Chemistry or Material Science or Associates and 5 years experience
  • Strong hands-on experience and knowledge in maintaining and trouble-shooting lab and pilot scale equipment
  • Excellent laboratory skills, including detailed record keeping and knowledge of safe handling of chemicals and equipment
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy and efficiency
  • Able to lift and carry up to 25lbs over short distances.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software required
  • Prior exposure to related industrial safety protocols, such as NFPA labeling, SDS, Hazwoper, etc.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills
