Job Description:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a local utility / energy company to place a Database Administrator (NERC CIP).  This role reports to the Supervisor of Telecommunications and is responsible for the performance, integrity and security of the organization’s operations databases.

Essential Functions:
•    Assist in database design
•    Updates and amends existing databases
•    Sets up and tests new database and data handling systems
•    Monitors and improves database efficiencies
•    Sustains the security and integrity of data
•    Creates complex query definitions that allow data to be extracted.
•    Trains colleagues on how to input and extract data
•    Advises management on long-term capacity plans and growth.
•    Analyzes and recommends database improvements
•    Audits data base access and requests
•    Communicates requirements to System Administrator
•    Debug database issues on live data
•    Guarantees database set up meets or exceeds industry standards
•    Implements backup and recovery plans
•    Optimizes queries on live data
•    Installs, maintains, and merges databases
•    Prevents data loss
•    Troubleshoots data base errors
•    Routinely tests database to ensure system is operating within acceptable limits and without errors
•    Leads root cause analysis activities to improve system performance
•    Stays current with technological developments in database administration technology and recommends ways to take advantage of new technology
•    Follows corporate change control and work management practices and policies
•    Keeps track of all system related documentation using approved methods
•    Works with members of the OT organization to benefit Operations
•    Other related duties as assigned. Responsible to be on call for support of critical systems
•    Ensures that records of system downtime and issues are properly maintained
•    Works with vendors to assist support activities
•    May guide or provide work direction to technical staff, contract staff and/or student employees
•    Ensures high availability and acceptable levels of performance of system databases
•    Acts as a SME for NERC CIP requirements
•    Responsible for meeting CIP requirements
•    Develops and coordinates project directions and schedules to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations
•    Provides leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration
•    Develops tools, procedures, and training sessions for Operations, Client Support and Systems Development staff to assist with work

Required Skills / Experience:
•    Bachelor’s or equivalent in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline, along with job-related certifications
•    Minimum 5 years database administration experience
•    Must be confident working with production servers
•    Understands and effectively uses database management software for all database architectures
•    Knowledge of: Unix system administration, enterprise backup and recovery procedures, and system performance monitoring tools
•    Ability to organize, plan, prioritize assignments, train and direct technical/professional staff
•    Ability to communicate technical/complex information both orally and in writing
•    Must be able to perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively
•    Demonstrated ability to work with customers, outside agencies and vendors
•    Must be able to provide transportation to offsite locations

Desired Skills / Experience:
•    8 years’ experience in computer science, Information Technology, or related field
•    Basic knowledge of overall power system operation
•    Experience with supporting SCADA systems and applications related to utility operations

Workplace Environment:
•    Normal office environment with periodic field exposure (i.e. electric power plants, T&D systems and substations).
•    Frequently required to sit, talk, hear and listen. Good vision required to read and interpret documents and observe staff. Ability to effectively communicate in writing and orally with employees, management, other departments, customers, and outside agencies.
•    Ability to communicate with field personnel on site.
•    Ability to enter and retrieve data from computerized, typed and written sources, along with electric test and metering equipment.
•    Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment on jobsites.
•    Some business travel required
•    1st (day) shift
