Description
Responsible for studying and planning operations for the effective utilization of personnel, material, machines and facilities of assigned area. Use independent judgment, but can receive some direct guidance from supervisor. Occasional training and assigning of work to a small group of employees.
• Assists in establishing operational methods and work standards using various measurement techniques
• Analyzes existing operations and proposes cost justified improvements
• Optimizes use of floor space, materials, personnel and equipment for current and future model
• Assists in planning new facilities, operations and/or relocation of same
• Provides information and data for various management systems
• Provide technical ergonomics resource support for current and future model
• Regular contact with others outside the work group
• Monitors adherence to recommended safety procedures and standardized work documentation
• Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
• Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
• Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
• Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
Qualifications
• High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
• Oral and written communication skills
• Work flexibility (working all 3 shifts)
• Knowledge of work measurement, standard data and time study
• Knowledge of Global Manufacturing System and assembly processes
• Demonstrated creativity, personal initiative and decision making capability
• Demonstrated, technical and professional skills in job-related area required
• Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
• Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering preferred (MS Office, Assembly Process System APS, AutoCAD)
Education and Training
• Bachelor’s degree with a major in Industrial engineering; Master's preferred

TYPICAL DAY: 
o 50% of the typical day is spent on the floor making observations. This includes taking data, validating operations on the floor, documentation, and conducting standardized work 
o The other 50% of the day is spent working in the office making updates to the documentation and working on plans to improve processes 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 
o Field checking 
o Time study on the floor 
o Layout of date and line balance 
o Preparing for a new Cadillac model build 
o Validate time studies (breaking down small aliments of work on the right job, ensuring that each amount of time is appropriate so the jobs are feasible) 
o Working on floor layouts with AutoCAD tools 
o Updating layouts 
o Creating proposals for rearrangements at the operations level 
o Creating innovative solutions to maximize the efficiency of the operators 
o The ability to troubleshoot very quickly so the line can get up and running. 
o The ability to perceive future possible obstacles that would cause the line to shut down and prevent production from running 

MUST HAVE: 
o Bachelor’s degree 
o 0-5 years of experience (manufacturing, production) 
o Good communication skills, people skills 
o Comfortable working in a union environment 
o The ability to sell ideas and lead/conduct meetings 
o Good people skills
