Quality Engineer

Reports to and assists the Quality Manager by training, leading and supervising members of the quality team in department policies and procedures, problem solving activities, and necessary quality activities supported by the team. Helps manage activities to ensure compliance to quality standards and reporting of necessary quality metrics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Responsible for evaluating and transacting non-conforming material
• To insure compliance with all Company rules/policies/practices
• Lead, supervise, and train Quality Engineers and Quality Technicians in the department
• Act as a liaison with managers and staff and effectively communicate relevant information to those who need to know
• Lead and facilitate departmental 5-S performance
• Incorporate safe working procedures into all activities
• Display a demeanor and leadership style that is consistent with the Company’s values and management philosophy
• Champion and lead the plant in system compliance in the areas of QS-9000, BOS, and ISO 14001
• Assemble and complete monthly reports for department
• Monitor production processes to assure continuous adherence to quality specifications
• Complete performance evaluations / reviews on a timely basis
• Coach, train, and develop Team Members for potential future advancement
• Improve performance indicators through the effective use of FMEA’s and Control Plans
• Maintain adherence to product quality standards for incoming materials and finished goods
• Manage customer and supplier relations
• Lead and foster plant problem solving activities
• Initiate and foster continuous improvement activities
• Control further processing, delivery, or installation of nonconforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected
• Appropriately exercise authority and responsibility to stop the production line should a safety or quality issue appear
• Perform all other tasks as requested by the Quality Manager or Plant Manager and/or necessary to provide our customer(s) with high quality, on-time products
• Maintain flexibility to adjust to changes in job requirements and hours, while completing other functions on a daily basis without fail
• Effectively operate and train others on computers and test equipment

Education Required & Preferred:
Associates Degree or equivalent experience required
BA/BS in Business, Engineering, or Physical Sciences, and certifications (CQE, CQA, CQM) preferred

Experience Required & Preferred:
Three to five years experience in the Quality field and computer skills including Microsoft Project, Excel, and Word required
Five to ten years experience in the Quality field, ISO / QS9000 implementation / audit experience, and blueprint reading (GD&T) and SPC preferred
